A refactor removed a module-level constant, three stale references survived, and the collector died at import on every scheduled run. Why a growing log looks identical to an idle daemon, how I proved eight payments had arrived by matching receive-block link fields against sale notifications, and the heartbeat rule that separates 'the process ran' from 'the process did something'.

A fetch helper returned an empty list on any exception, and the caller read the empty list as 'no pending blocks'. The money sat receivable for four hours behind a clean exit code and a passing test suite. The direct endpoint call that proved the 20 XNO was waiting, the three-line fix, and the rule that a money-fetching function must raise rather than return empty.

The preamble is not the byte 0x06 first (it is 6 stored big-endian in a 256-bit word), balance is 128-bit big-endian, and the address decode hides a third trap. The pinned vector that catches all three, and the clean-checkout test that runs with python3 alone.
